Dalyan is situated on the South west coast of Turkey between Fethiye and Marmaris. Dalyan can offer visitors a wide range of activities. Boat trips, turtle watching, sports activities such as mountain biking, scuba diving, cultural interest, proximity to fine beaches, massage, shopping, restaurants and bars make Dalyan a popular destination for families and individuals alike. The town has become a popular destination over the last 10 years, but still retains its charming and friendly village character bringing repeat visitors year after year. Dalyan means “fishing weir” in Turkish. The town has developed on the banks of the river where the ‘dalyans’ are used to catch the Bass, Mullet and Sea Bream swimming back to the Mediterranean after spawning in Köyceğiz Lake.
High above the Dalyan River, overlooking the town, are the weathered facades of the ancient burial tombs of Caunos. Build by the Lycians around 400 BC to house the dead kings of the nearby city they were a symbol of wealth and sophistication which still look as impressive today as they must of done 2400 years ago.
